Paddle Route # 1

Kalamazoo River - Sun. Jan 26, 2014

 

Date:  Sunday, January 26  2014

Time:  9:30am - 1:30pm

Location:  Kalamazoo River: paddle 5 river miles in cold weather conditions.

Required:  Familiarity w/cold water paddling. Suggested: Dry or Wet Suit, Change of clothes in dry bag.

Put In:  Meet at Put-in, Commerce Lane off Mosel Ave at 840 Commerce Lane.

             Drop boats with Kayak Tender, then caravan to Take-Out location.

Take Out:  Rinehart Landing Access Site at 1025 East D Avenue.

                 Take out Fee $1.00 per boat plus Parking Fee $1.00 per vehicle.

                 10 min after Take-out: leave to shuttle vehicle drivers back to the Put-In location.

Cost: Bring your own equipment: No charge.

          Rent equipment from Lee's: $45 with $400/$600 Deposit

Date:  Sunday, February 23  2014

Time:  9:30am - 1:30pm

Location:  Kalamazoo River: paddle 5.0 / 7.5 river miles in cold weather conditions

Required:  Familiarity w/cold water paddling. Suggested: Dry or Wet Suit, Change of clothes in dry bag.

Put In:  Meet at Put-in, Fort Custer Recreational Area off 5163 Fort Custer Drive, Augusta (Recreation Passport Required)

             Drop boats with Kayak Tender, then caravan to Take-Out location.

Take Out:  Galesburg City Park at 200 East Mich Ave, Galesburg, 1/4 mile south of (behind) Fire Station.

                 10 min after Take-out: leave to shuttle vehicle drivers back to the Put-In location.

Cost: Bring your own equipment: No charge.

          Rent equipment from Lee's: $45 with $400/$600 Deposit

Paw Paw River - Sun. March 23, 2014

 

Date:  Sunday, March 23  2014

Time:  9:30am - 1:30pm

Location:  Paw Paw River: paddle 7 river miles in cold weather conditions

Required:  Familiarity w/cold water paddling. Suggested: Dry or Wet Suit, Change of clothes in dry bag.

Put In:  Meet at Put-in, Lawrence Village Park 3 miles north I-94 exit 52 on Paw Paw Street CR215

             Drop boats with Kayak Tender, then caravan to Take-Out location.

Take Out:  County Rd 681, 1.25m north of Red Arrow Highway.

                 Opt Take Out: 54th Street (1.5 hr - 2.5 mile).

Cost: Bring your own equipment: No charge.

This will cover areas such as Risk Assessment, PFD fitting, clothing tips, and paddling techniques.

 

 

Shuttle Information

Participants are responsible for transporting themselves & their boats. Car-pooling and shuttling help alleviate parking limitations. Nofity Coordinator (Kenneth, 269-330-1040) to participate in the shuttle.

There may be parking & access fees at some public access sites.

Bring your own lunch & drinking water as desired.

The times listed are "float current" speeds--actual times may vary. We like to keep the group together, and we always paddle at the speed of the slowest paddler.
